Heineken, the history of this beer brand

Heineken is a Dutch beer brand, founded in 1873 in Amsterdam. It is today the first beer in the world and the most sold in the world. Heineken is a blonde beer brewed with hops and barley, whose secret recipe is jealously guarded by the brewers.

Le nom de la marque vient du nom du fondateur de la brasserie, Gerard Adriaan Heineken. Nous allons voir un peu plus dans cet article comment faire pour gagner de l?argent sur internet avec Heineken.

The history of heineken

The history of Heineken is much older than the brewery. In 1873, Gerardus Heineken acquired a small brewery in Amsterdam, where he produced beers and some soft drinks. In 1875, his son Gerardus (1843-1916) took over the family brewery. A year later, he bought a new hop distilling machine, which considerably increased the beer production at the Amsterdam site. This was not enough to satisfy the growing demand for beer in the Netherlands and Belgium: after obtaining the official patent for its production, Heineken decided to expand its activities to the rest of the world. To do so, he bought another brewery in Haarlemmermeer in 1876 and built a new factory near Antwerp in 1878 to export his beer. After acquiring the exclusive rights to sell his beer in the United States in 1886, the company started to manufacture soft drinks in 1887. A year earlier, his son Frans (1862-1931) became managing director of the company and launched an ambitious program to further increase the international reputation of the HEINEKEN brand.

The first commercial success was achieved in 1875 with the "Hollandia" which was sold throughout Western Europe and in Morocco. In 1880, the group opened its first factory in Antwerp and in 1902, it moved its headquarters to Amsterdam in order to follow the evolution of the glass industry on the European continent. In 1904, it decided to increase its sales by acquiring exclusive distribution rights for the British market. This acquisition increased exports to this country, which at that time represented 60% of the group's total turnover.

Thanks to this strategy, it quickly became the world's largest brewer, with exports accounting for 80% of the group's total sales2.

International expansion continued with a move to the United States in 1908 and to Japan in 19173. By 1920, the company had breweries in the Netherlands, the United States, Canada and Japan. In the 1990s, the company expanded its activities to South Africa and then to Brazil and Central Africa4.

The family-owned company was founded in 1895 and has belonged to the InBev brewery group since 1999. It is mainly known for its lager and amber beers, including Heineken, Amstel Lite and Leffe Blonde.

The family Heineken also owns the Clos des Moines castle in Avenches in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland which was built in 1297 by Etienne II de Montfalcon-Thoirette, son of the first lord of Orsières. In 1620, Jean-Jacques Thorey bought it and transformed it into a sumptuous castle that his descendants continue to maintain to this day.

The estate then had more than 40 hectares of which 3 hectares were planted with vines. In 1777, Louis-Antoine Thorey acquired it and then entrusted the reins of the estate to his nephew Charles-Guillaume Thorey, who was at the origin of special vintages made from a blend of different Swiss grape varieties, such as the white Chasselas or the Müller Thurgau (white grape variety).
